Future visitor itineraries

The renovation will enable the collections to be reorganised in the form of five visitor routes: a historical and chronological route, which will form the main route, and four thematic and cross-disciplinary routes. Digital technology will enhance and renew the visitor experience, plunging them into the heart of the collections and regional history.

The history itinerary: a vast canvas of the history of Lorraine :

The first tour to be developed, the historical tour will take the form of a vast fresco designed to give visitors the keys to the history of Lorraine, from prehistory to the present day. The tour will unfold in a clear and fluid way within the ducal palace.

It will comprise three major chronological sequences:

  • The origins of Lorraine
  • Between France and the Empire, a coveted area: from the 11th century to 1766
  • French Lorraine: from 1766 onwards

Thematic and cross-disciplinary itineraries

Four complementary tours of the ducal palace and the Cordeliers complex will enable visitors to explore Lorraine in greater depth through :

  • Artistic and intellectual life in Lorraine
  • People and work
  • People and their land
  • Spiritual and religious life in Lorraine
